Lungs And Stuff Flashcards
What are the functions of the respiratory system?
Brings air from the atmosphere Transfers oxygen into the blood Removes carbon dioxide from the blood Expel heat Gives us the ability to speak
What dose the respiratory system do?
It allows the body to
Breathe brining oxygen to the blood and removing carbon dioxide
What is the Structure of the respiratory system
The conducting system
The lungs
The diaphragm
What dose the conducting system do?
The conducting system
Warms and filters the air
(The filter in the nasal
cavity is called cillia)
What dose the larynx do?
The larynx is known as the voice box
When air passes through the vocal cord it creates sound
What are the main functions of the circulatory system
Circulate blood to all parts of the body To transfer water, oxygen and nutrients to cells Transport waste away from cells Helps maintain body temp Helps fight disease
Components of the circulatory system
The heart Blood vessels Blood Arteries Veins
What are components of the heart
Right atrium Left atrium Right ventricle Left ventricle Tricuspid valve Mitral valve Aorta
How is blood circulated through the heart and body
Blood enters the heart through two large veins, the inferior and superior vena cava, emptying oxygen-poor blood from the body into the right atrium. As the atrium contracts, blood flows from your right atrium into your right ventricle through the open tricuspid valve.
What is the function of the arteries
Arteries carry oxygen rich blood away from the heart to the body. ( they are the largest blood vessel
What is the function of the veins
Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. They have one way valve which only allow blood to flow in one direction.
What is the function of the capillaries
These are small blood vessels and they exchange nutrients and waste between the blood and body’s cells they thin walls to allow this to happen
What is the function of red blood cells
Carry oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the cells and muscle
And produces bone marrow
What is the function of white blood cells
Fight disease causing organisms
What is the function of hemoglobin
Is the substance in red blood cells that oxygen attaches to.
