Q

What are the main functions of the circulatory system

A
Circulate blood to all parts of the body
To transfer water, oxygen and nutrients to cells
Transport waste away from cells
Helps maintain body temp
Helps fight disease

9
Q

How is blood circulated through the heart and body

A

Blood enters the heart through two large veins, the inferior and superior vena cava, emptying oxygen-poor blood from the body into the right atrium. As the atrium contracts, blood flows from your right atrium into your right ventricle through the open tricuspid valve.

Q

What is the function of the arteries

A

Arteries carry oxygen rich blood away from the heart to the body. ( they are the largest blood vessel

11
Q

What is the function of the veins

A

Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. They have one way valve which only allow blood to flow in one direction.

12
Q

What is the function of the capillaries

A

These are small blood vessels and they exchange nutrients and waste between the blood and body’s cells they thin walls to allow this to happen

16
Q

What is the function of plasma

A

Plasma is clear yellowish fluid in which the blood cells are suspended, plasma provides the cell with proteins, salts, fats, glucose, antibodies, and some oxygen

17
Q

What is the function of platelets

A

They cause blood to clot when blood vessels are damaged.

18
Q

Components of the respiratory system

A

Brings air from the atmosphere into the lungs
Transfer oxygen into the blood
Remove carbon dioxide from blood
Expel heat
Allows vocal cords to create speech as air is breathed out.

19
Q

What is inspiration

A

Air moves from a high pressure area to a low pressure area, as the chest cavity expands the pressure inside decreases, therefor sucking in the air outside the lungs which is a higher pressure area

20
Q

What is expiration

A

Breathing out

When the diaphragm relaxes and the chest cavity returns to its smaller state.

21
Q

Gas exchange in the body

A

Gas exchange is the delivery of oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream, and the elimination of carbon dioxide from the bloodstream to the lungs.

22
Q

What is the membrane which covers you lungs?

A

Pleura

23
Q

What is the conducting system

A
Nadal cavity
Pharynx
Larynx
Trachea
Bronchi
Bronchioles
Alveoli
