Lungs Flashcards
What is Stridor
Can be inspiration or expiration
High pitch
Upper airway (trachea / throat)
Screeching / squawking
Narrowing of larynx / trachea or blockage of the same
Can be Life Threatening
Croup / Epiglottitis / Anaphylaxis
What is Rhonchi
Mainly expiration but can be inspiration
Low but loud
Snoring / snorting / grunting sound
Improves with coughing / suction
When air leaves the trachea and hits mucus and fluids
Bronchitis / COPD
What is Wheezing
Mainly expiration
High pitch
Squeaky / Whistling sound
Asthma, COPD, narrowing of airways
What is Rales
Fine Crackles / like crackling of a fire
High Pitch / distinguishable pops
Mainly on Inspiration
Can’t be cleared by coughing
Air sacs opening up on inspiration
What is Course Crackles
Low pitch, sounds like gurgling
Towards start of inspiration but can go into expiration
Coughing doesn’t clear it
Large Airway (bronchi) filled with fluid / thick mucus / Chronic lung disease
What is the calculation for Cylinder Duration of an E tank?
Tank Constant - E tank 0.28, D tank 0.16, M tank 1.56
Tank constant x (PSI-200)/flow in LPM = duration of O2 in minutes
Subtract 200 for safe residual pressure
