Lung Volumes Flashcards
1
Q
What is Tidal Volume(Vt)
A
The volume of air inhaled and exhaled at rest. normal breathing(inhalation + exhalation).
2
Q
What is normal Vt
A
about 500mL-750mL (Vt(i) and Vt(e))
3
Q
What is inspiratory reserve volume(IRV)
A
the volume of air forcefully inhaled after normal Vt.
4
Q
Normal IRV value
A
Male = ~3.3L
Female = ~1.9L
5
Q
What is expiratory reserve volume(ERV)
A
the volume of air forcefully exhaled after normal Vt.
6
Q
Normal ERV
A
Male = ~1.1L
Female = ~ 0.7L
7
Q
What is residual volume(RV)
A
the amount of air remaining in the lungs that can’t be fully exhaled. prevents lung collapse and keeps alveoli’s open.
8
Q
Normal RV
A
About 1200mL or 20-25mL per Kg of body weight
