Asthma*
Sputum analysis yields “Curschmann’s Spirals”* or Charcot Leyden crystals”*
Cystic Fibrosis
Affects Chloride channels. “Sweat test”. Mother notices 1st…tastes salt. Salty baby syndrome. Affects GI and respiratory mucus linings and exocrine secretions. Susceptible to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Lung transplants frequently required.
Hemosiderosis
Iron in lungs due to bleeding ( pulmonary embolism, cancer, puncture wound)
Pulmonary fibrosis
Honeycomb lung
Tuberculosis (don’t ultrasound patients w/history)
Casseous necrosis in lung. Gohn complex/lesions. Granulomas. Epithelioid Histiocytes. If spread to spine = “Pott’s disease”. If vertebra collapses from TB = “Gibbus deformity”.
Wegener’s granulomatosis
vasculitis of the lung of the lung and kidney
Emphysema (can’t exhale)
Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (protease/antiprotease theory is associated with this)
