What are the features associated with mycoplasma pneumonia?
Graudual onset, flu, then dry cough, bilateral consolidation CXR.
Associated Sx:
Erythemia multiforme/ nodosum
Cold autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (thrombocytopenia)
Meningoencephalitis, Guilin barre
Bullous myringitis (painful vesiculas on tympanic membrane)
Pericarditis
GI: pancreatitis, hepatitis
Acute glomerulonephritis
How would you investigate suspected mycoplasma pneumonia?
Look for mycoplasma serology
Do a cold agguntination test (postive)
Chest X-ray (bilateral consolidation)
What’s the treatment for mycoplasma pneumonia?
Erythromycin/clarithromycin
How do you diagnose legionella pneumonia?
Urinary antigen
What additional features would prompt a diagnosis of legionella pneumonia?
Hyponateria, lymphopenia, deranged LFTs,
Organism in croup?
Parainfluenza virus
Organism in common cold?
Rhinovirus
Organism in bronchiolitis?
RSV
How would you diagnose latent TB in an adult who is in close contact with someone who has TB?
Mantoux test
Interferon Gamma release assay in specific situations
