Lung Flashcards
What is the Location of the Front Mu of the Lung
LU 1
“laterosuperior” to the sternum
Level of 1st intercostal space
6 cun lateral to the midline
Which 3 points on the Lung channel should be needled Obliquely?
LU 1, LU 2, LU 7
What is the location of LU 2?
Superior to the coracoid process of scapula
Depression of the infraclaviculr fossa
6 cun lateral to the anterior midline
What is the locations of LU 3 and LU 4?
When might you use these points instead of others?
Medial aspect of the arm on the radial side of the biceps brachii
LU 3 - 3 cun inferior to the axillary fold
LU 4 - 4 cun
When there is pain locally in the arm.
What is the location and function of the He Sea point on the Lung channel?
LU 5 - Transverse cubital crease, radial side of the tendon of the bices brachii (locate with elbow bent)
Treates counterflow - Cough, Asthma
Discharges l_ung fire_, clears upper burner heat (Water point)
What is the location and function of LU 6?
- Palmar side of the forearm
- Line joining LU 9 and LU 5
- 7 cun above the wrist crease
Lung Qi to descend
Clears heat
STOPS BLEEDING - Xi Cleft point
Use this point for hemoptysis (bleeding/coughing)
What 3 categories are LU 7? Where is it located?
Luo, Command Head/Neck, Confluent - Ren
Superior to the styloid process of the radius, 1.5 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist
What does Lung 7 treat?
Diffuses lung and dispels cold - cough, asthma, sore throat
Courses channels and frees the connecting vessels - pain and weakness of the wrist
Also treats headache, migraine, neck rigidity, facial paraylsis, toothache
What is the Host / Guest Pair with LU 7 (Luo)
LU 7 , LI 4 (Source)
Treats wind cold invasion /attack
What pair treats Yin Deficiency Sore Throat
LU 7 , KD 6
What is the category, element, and location of LU 8
Jing River (Metal - Horary)
1 cun above the transverse wrist crease in the depression on the lateral side of the radial artery
What is important about needling LU 8 and LU 9
Needle superficially and avoid the Radial Artery
What does LU 8 treat?
Diffuses the lung and downbears Qi
Courses wind and resolves the exterior
Cough, Asthma, Fever, Pain in the chest, sore throat, pain in the wrist
What are the categories and location for LU 9?
Shu Stream
Source / Yuan Point
Influential point for Vessels
(Also the ‘mother’ - earth point on metal - tonifying)
Located at the radial end of the transverse crease of wrist in the depression on the lateral side of the radial artery
What is the category, element and location for LU 10?
Ying Spring - Fire
Radial aspect of the midpoint of the 1st metacarpal bone on the junction of the red and white skin
What would you treat with Lung 9
Cough, asthma, hemoptysis, sore throat (general lung) palpitation, pain in the chest, wrist and arm (locally)
What other point would you use with LU 9 to treat phlegm due to Lung and Qi Deficiency?
SP 3
What does the Host / Guest pair of LU 9 (source) with LI 6 (Luo) treat?
Facial edema due to Lung Qi Deficiency
What is the most important function of LU 10?
Disinhibits the throat, clears blood heat, abates FEVER
Where is LU 11 located, what is its category and when/how might you use it?
Radial side of the thumb, .1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail
Jing Well (Wood)
Prick to bleed to treat sore throat
Revive inversion / passing out - mania
What is a guest / host pair?
The source of one channel and the luo of another
What is the path of the Lung Divergent channel?
Breaks off proximal to the elbow
Dives deep into the organs (LU, LI)
Joins up with the LI divergent channel
Then to the LI primary channel
Exits at the Window of the Sky points
Where does the Lung Tendino-Muscular channel begin and where does it go?
At LU 11 (Distal to the elbow/knee)
Binds/Articulates at the joints
Goes into the intercostal muscles/chest
What are the pathological manifestations of the Lung Channel?
Cough
Asthmatic breathing
Hemoptysis (cough w/ blood)
Congested & sore throat
Fullness in the chest
Pain in supraclavicular fossa, back and anterior border of the medial aspect of the arm
On the body, where does the Lung channel begin, which organs does it enter, where does it end?
Middle Jiao - goes down loops around umblicus enters the Large Intestine, up into the chest and lungs, then into the throat and down the arm where it ends on the first finger (thumb)
How many points are on the Lung channel, at which point does it exit and where does it exit to?
11 points
LU 7 - Exits to LI 1 on the Radial side of the Index Finger
