Epididymal cyst
can get above it,
seperate from the testis,
filled with clear milk fluid
Primary Hydrocele
Fluid in the tunica vaginalis.
Due to a patent procesus vaginalis - more common and larger.
Can aspirate or resolves in 1st year of life.
Surgical plication of prcoesus vaginalis.
Secondary Hydrocele
Due to tumour, trauma, or infection.
Epididymal orchitis
Inflammation of the epididymus or testis.
Caused by Chlamydia, N. gonnorrhoea, E.coli
Sudden onset, tender swelling of the testicle,
Dysuria, sweats and fever,
First catch urine sample needed - testing
STI screen
Treatment - doxycycline if chlamydia/E.coli. Ceftriaxone if gonorrhoea.
Varicocele
Incompetent valves in veins leads to back flow in the pampiniform plexus.
Dilation of veins - feels like a bag of worms.
Left side affected more.
Haematocele
Trauma induced bleeding in scrotum
Questions to ask
Can you get above it? Is it cystic or solid? Is it part of the testis or seperate? Does the swelling transluminate? hydrocele? Cough impulse? hernia?
