Neuro exam of L4-5, S1 nerve roots

A

. Standing exam: gait, osture, landmarks, lat. and AP curves, AROM, PROM in all 3 planes, PSS, standing flexion
. Seated exam: seated flexion, A/PROM of lumbar motion in all planes, segmental diagnosis
. Supine exam: landmarks, pelvic girdle, modified Thomas
. Prone: landmarks, iliolumbar ligament, prone psoas test, gross motion testing, segmental diagnosis in 3 planes

Prone testing gross motion

A

. Rotate entire torso w/ both hands
. Laterally translate torso for sidebending
. Fl/extension: push ant. On spine

Trauma influence on motion testing

A

. Segment doesn’t conform to physiologic principles of motion
. Segment rotating and sidebending at opposite sides most common at L5 typical of trauma
