luke Flashcards
remembering him
Offred spends a lot of time remembering him, however, he often seems to be at odds with her emotions
seemed both loving and care free
reaction to the regime
he doesn’t seem greatly distressed when Offred loses her job and must cede all her money to him
perhaps he’s actually sexist
but then he argued about feminism with Offred’s mother
failed escape
leads Offred to imagine many fates for him but she never pictures him joining Gilead
she would prefer to idolize him and maintain her love for him as a kind of escape
Offred’s past failure
her failure to protect her daughter and stick with Luke are linked to her present failure to achieve Gilead’s demands
