Q

What are pain-based responses during the LSI and how should you respond?

A

If the child does not respond, use silence, reflective, or empathic statements, or ask for concrete information, ask if they need more time, set a time to talk again in another 30 minutes
If a child gets off subject, listen, and relate back to the incident or return to the conversation
If developing a plan prematurely, be patient and allow the child to talk at their pace
