Romanian Orphanage Study
Rutter Et Al - Studied 165 Romanian children who spent their early lvies in Romanian orphanages, therefore suffering from institutionalisation. The children were tested at regular intervals to assess tehir physical, cognitive and social development.
Romanian Orphange Study Findings
The orphans lagged behind their British counterparts one everything at the time of adoption. By the age of 4 children adopted before 6 months had caught up however a number of those adopted after 6 months still had signfiicant deficits at age 4.
Romanian Orphanage Conclusion
If children are adopted before 6 months and have good parenting the long-term consequences are less severe. However, those who aren’t are likely to have more severe consequences of institutionalisation.
