LS1 - Caregiver-Infant Interactions Flashcards
Alert Phases
Babies have alert phases where they signa; they’re ready for interaction. 2 thirds of the time mothers respond to this alertness, after 3 months this interaction becomes increasingly frequent and involves strong verbal/facial communication, which partially relies on recirpocity.
Reciprocoty
An interaction is reciprocal when each person responds to the other and elicits a response from them. Early research suggests that the interaction between infants and caregivers is like a conversation.
Bracelton (Reciprocoty)
The basic rhthym is an important precursor to later communciations, as the regularity of interactions allows the caregiver to anticipate behaviour & effectively respond.
Interactional Synchrony
A special kind of interaction between caregivers and infants, a reflection of waht the otehr is doing e.g. a mother and infant reflect lots of actions and emotions of the other and do this in a co-ordinated way.
