LQTS Flashcards
What is Long QT Syndrome?
A genetic inborn heart condition where the cells take longer to repolarise which increases the chances of arrhythmias
What are some of the symptoms of LQTS?
Palpatations, fainting or sudden death because the ventricle can go into fibrillation
What is common in LQTS?
Early after depolarisations
How do you diagnose LQTS?
Giving the patient a LQTS score which is made of many different factors
What drugs are dangerous in people with LQTS?
Ones that work by prolonging the QT interval
Ones that increase sympathetic innervation
What drug can be used in treating someone with LQTS?
Beta blockers to prevent arrhythmias
What can be used in treatment of extreme LQTS?
An implantable defribillator so shock any arrhythmias back to sinus rhythm.
