LP #96 Innervation Of Upper Limb Flashcards
- Formed by n roots: C5, C6, C7, C8 & T1
* originates from medial & lateral cords
Median nerve
Median sensory Innervation
- anterior surface of lateral 3 1/2 digits
* distal 1/2 of dorsal 3 1/2 digits
Median nerve motor Innervation
- Antebrachium
- pronator teres
- flexor carpi radialis
- palmaris longus
- flexor digitorum profundus (lateral 1/2)
- flexor pollicis longus
- pronator quadratus
Median nerve (the hand)?
- Thenar mm
* lateral 2 lumbricals
Ulnar nerve sensory Innervation
- elbow
- wrist *medial 1 1/2 digits
- hand (dorsum & palm)
Ulnar nerve motor Innervation
- antebrachium
- flexor carpi ulnaris
- flexor digitorum profundus (medial 1/2)
Ulnar nerve (hand)
- interossei
- medial two (2) lumbricals
- hypothenar mms
- adductor pollicis
- formed from n roots C5, C6, C7, C8, T1
* originates from posterior cord
Radial nerve
Radial nerve sensory Innervation
- posterior medial brachium
- inferolateral brachium
- elbow
- posterolateral antebrachium
- wrist
- dorsum of hand
- proximal aspect- lateral 3 1/2 digits
Radial nerve motor Innervation
- all extensor mm (upper limb)
- posterior brachial mm
- extensor supinator mm (forearm)
- formed by n roots: C5, C6, C7
* originates from arterial cord
Musculocutaneous nerve
Musculocutaneous nerve sensory Innervation
*skin over lateral forearm
Musculocutaneous nerve motor Innervation
- coracobrachialis
- biceps brachii
- brachialis
- deep to SCM
- formed by ventral rami of C1-C4 spinal nerves
- innervates:
- scalp
- neck
- shoulders
- nerves have motor * sensory branches
Cervical plexus
Branches of the cervical plexus
- most are cutaneous (innervate skin)
* some are motor & innervate mm of neck/shoulder & the diaphragm
The cervical plexus- cutaneous sensory branches:
Supplies sensory Innervation to?
- ear
- posterolateral neck
- anterior cervical triangle
- upper anterior chest & shoulder
The cervical plexus-cutaneous sensory branches
*sensory Innervation are via?
- lesser occipital nerve (C2-C3)
- posterior lateral neck & ear
- greater articular nerve (C2-C3)
- ear b/w angle of mandible & mastoid process
- transverse cervical nerve (C2-C3)
- anterior/lateral neck & cervical triangle
- supraclavicular nerves (C3-C4)
- upper anterior chest, shoulder, SC & AC joints
Motor branches: cervical plexus
- ansa cervicalis (C1-C3)
- infrahyoid mms
*phrenic nerve (C3-C5)
-diaphragm
(C 3,4,5 keep diaphragm alive)
Motor branches: cervical plexus
*segmental & other branches C1-C5 serve?
- deep mm of neck
* portion of scalenes, levator scapulae, trapezium, SCM
Motor branches: cervical plexus
*deep motor branches arise from cervical roots & provide Innervation to?
- rhomboids
- serratus anterior
- prevertebral mm
Motor branches: dorsal rami (cervical region)
- not part of cervical plexus
- innervates?
- superficial, intermediate & deep intrinsic back mms that extend into neck
- all suboccipital mms
