Lower Limbs Flashcards
Coxal bones contain how many bones and which ones?
3, ilium, ischium, and pubis
Characteristics of coxal bone
Separated by cartilage, fusion by 25 years, great bone fusion for weight bearing and muscle attachment, fusion at hip socket
Greater pelvis
also the false pelvis, part of the abdomen, no pelvic organs
lesser pelvis
also known as the true pelvis, surrounds pelvic cavity, and contains pelvic organs (urinary bladder, internal reproductive organs)
male pelvis
narrow, tall, deep false pelvis, narrower pelvic inlet, narrower pelvic outlet, narrower sacrum, heart shaped pelvic brim, pubic arch less than 90°, coccyx points anterior, oval obturator foramen
female pelvis
shorter, wide, shallow false pelvis, large round pelvic inlet, wider pelvic outlet, short/wide sacrum, rounded pelvic brim, pubic arch greater than 100°, coccyx points inferior, triangular shaped obturator foramen
sacroiliac joint connects
