lower limb bones Flashcards
Name the foot bones
Talus, calcaneus, navicular, cuboid, cuneiforms (intermediate, medial, lateral), phalanges (proximal, middle, distal)
Name the tibia bony points
tibial plateau, intercondylar eminence, medial & lateral condyle, tibial tuberosity, medial malleolus
Name the fibula bony points
fibula head, neck of fibula, lateral malleolus, lateral malleolar fossa
what’s the tibial tuberosity
the pronounced bump at the top of the anterior surface of the tibia
what are the tibias medial and lateral condyles
the two large bumps at the superior end of the tibia
what’s the medial and lateral tibial plateau
the flat surfaces on top of the medial and lateral condyles that house the femoral condyles
what’s the intercondylar eminence
the raised lip between the medial and lateral tibial plateau
what’s the medial malleolus
the distal end of the tibia facing the midline
what’s the fovea capitis
the central depression in the head of the femur
name the proximal femur bony points
fovea capitis, grater trochanter, lesser trochanter, intertrochanteric crest, intertrochanteric line, quadrate tubercle
name the femur shaft bony points
pectineal line, gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, popliteal fossa, medial and lateral supracondylar ridges, adductor tubercle
name the distal femur bony points
medial and lateral condyles, medial and lateral epicondyles, trochlear groove, intercondylar fossa
what’s the intertrochanteric line
the anterior line between the greater and lesser trochanter
what’s the intertrochanteric crest
the posterior crest between the greater and lesser trochanter
what’s the quadrate tubercle
the small bump 2/3 of the way up the intertrochanteric crest, for the quadratus femoris
what’s the greater trochanter
what’s the lesser trochanter
what’s the pectineal line
the attachment point for the pectineus muscle on the posterior surface
what’s the gluteal tuberosity
the attachment point for the gluteus Maximus muscle on the posterior surface
what’s the linea aspera
the pectineal line and gluteal tuberosity converge to form a ridge that runs down the posterior aspect of the femur, and is one of the attachment sites of the hamstring muscles
what’s the popliteal fossa
the linea aspera widens out to form the floor of the popliteal fossa, where the popliteus muscle is
what are the medial and lateral supracondylar ridges
the linea aspera widens out to form two ridges to the sides of the popliteal fossa
what’s the adductor tubercle
the bump where the medial supra condylar ridge stops, is the attachment point for adductor Magnus
what are the femurs medial and lateral condyles
they sit on top of the tibia to form the tibiofemoral joint and are covered in hyaline cartilage
