Lower Jiao Points Flashcards

1
Q

Ren 2: QUGU Crooked Bone

A

At the mid-point of the superior edge of the pubic bone. Gently palpate down the centre of the abdomen until your fingers feel the bony ridge of the superior edge of the pubic bone at the location of Ren 2. When feeling for the edge of pubis be careful to identify bone and not be misled by the strong taut muscles that are in this area.

A

2 cun below St 25, 2 cun lateral to the mid-line, on a level with Ren 5.

St 26: WAILING Outer Mound

A

1 cun below St 25, 2 cun lateral to the mid-line, on a level with Ren 7.

19
Q

St 25: TIANSHU Heavenly Pivot

A

On a level with the centre of the umbilicus, 2 cun lateral to the mid- line, on a level with Ren 8.

20
Q

Sp 12: CHONGMEN Surging Gate

A

On a level with the superior edge of the pubic bone, 31/2 cun lateral to the mid-line, on a level with Ren 2. The point lies in the groin, just lateral to the femoral artery. You can feel the pulse when palpating the point.

21
Q

Sp 13: FUSHE Treasury Dwelling

A

0.7 cun above Sp 12, 4.3 cun below Sp 15, 4 cun lateral to the mid-line, a little below the level of Ren 3. (Depending on the width of a person’s hip bones you may find that the point lies at a distance of less than 4 cun from the mid-line. Follow the contours of the body and bring the point in slightly if necessary).

22
Q

Sp 14: FUJIE Abdomen Knot

A

1.3 cun below Sp 15, 4 cun lateral to the mid-line, slightly superior to the level of Ren 6

23
Q

Sp 15: DAHENG Great Horizontal

A

On a level with the centre of the umbilicus, 4 cun lateral to the mid- line, on a level with Ren 8.

24
Q

GB 26: DAIMAI Girdle Channel

A

This is another point at the level of the umbilicus and waist, along with Ren 8, Kid 16, St 25 and Sp 15. Where the other points are found on the anterior surface of the body, this point is found further out on the anterio-lateral surface of the abdomen, closer to GB 25.
The point lies where a vertical line passing through Liv 13 (which lies just below the tip of the 11th rib) crosses a horizontal line passing through the umbilicus. Check by finding GB 25 and GB 27. Visualise the line of the Gall Bladder Channel as it curves over the hip from GB 25 to GB 27. GB 26 lies on this line where it crosses the horizontal contour line of the person’s waist at the level of her umbilicus.
As a double check, the point lies at roughly 3 cun superior to the level of GB 27.
Theoretically it lies at 1.8 cun inferior to Liv 13 but this measurement is somewhat variable from person to person.

25
Q

GB 27: WUSHU Five Pivots

A

This point is found on the anterior edge of the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS), roughly 3 cun below the level of the umbilicus, on a level with Ren 4.
Find the superior iliac crest and then trace this forward to its most anterior extremity where it drops down to become the more vertical anterior iliac spine. The point lies in a little depression on this anterior edge of the bone.

26
Q

GB 28: WEIDAO Linking Way

A

The point lies in a depression 1/2 cun below GB 27, on the anterior edge of the bone just inferior to the ASIS. This point is often more noticeably tender than GB 27.

27
Q

GB 29: ULIAO Dwelling in Foramen

A

GB 29 & 30: located with the patient lying on her side with her upper leg flexed:
In the depression midway between the ASIS and the highest point of the greater trochanter of the femur. The point lies on the Gall Bladder line, a little less than half-way from GB 28 to GB 30

28
Q

GB 30: HUANTIAO Jumping Circle

A

GB 29 & 30: located with the patient lying on her side with her upper leg flexed:
Find the greater trochanter of the femur. With the person lying on her side and her upper leg flexed, it is quite easy to feel or see the highest point of the greater trochanter of the femur. Put a mark here. The point lies posterior to this prominence of bone, in the gluteus maximus muscle. To find the point you must find two landmarks – the highest point of the greater trochanter of the femur and the sacral hiatus (Du 2).
The sacral hiatus is relatively easy to find quickly, as it lies lateral and a little superior to the place where the gluteus maximus muscles meet (the top of the builder’s cleavage!). It is where the coccyx meets the sacrum, or Du 2.
GB 30 lies at a distance of one third from the highest point of the greater trochanter of the femur to the sacral hiatus (Du 2). It lies in a large hollow that is generally visible as a dip in the person’s flesh and is often tender on pressure.
