what is the main cause of LOWER GI TRACT PERIANAL REGION HAEMORRHOIDS AND FISSURES?
Both most commonly due to constipation.
what are haemorrhoids?
Haemorrhoids are Swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort and bleeding.it can be external or internal.
what is the cause of haemorrhoids?
Haemorrhoids are usually caused by straining during bowel movements, obesity or pregnancy.
what are anal fissures?
A small tear in the lining of the anus.
Signs of anal fissures?
Fresh bright bleeding on wiping, often painful defaecation as well.
what part of the GIT when the blood of the stool is black?
Upper GI tract/small intestine
What part of the GIT when the blood is bright red on paper?
Outlet bleeding i.e. perianal causes and no fresh blood on the stool or in the toilet.
what part of the GIT when the blood is bright red and is mixed with the stool?
Left colon
What part of the GIT when the blood is Dark red?
Proximal colon i.e. caecum to transverse colon OR Distal small intestine.
When to think of colon cancer???
- Rectal bleeding, mixed in with stools and dark
- New change in bowel habit, usually diarrhoea
- Older adult
- Iron deficiency — except in young menstruating women or strict lifelong vegetarian
- Weight loss
