10
Q

what important landmark is located in the adductor magnus? what happens here?

A

adductor hiatus - allows for passage of femoral vessels from anterior thigh to posterior, then into popliteal fossa (posterior knee)

Q

what additional parts are included in adductor magnus

A

includes adductor and hamstring components
both adduct but both can also extend
hamstring portion = tibial n. innervation

16
Q

how many muscles are in the posterior compartment of the thigh? name them

A

3 muscles:
hamstrings (3) - semimembranous, semitendinosus, biceps femoris (long head)

*Biceps femoris (short head) = exception included in PC

17
Q

how does tibial nerve damage present? what compartment is affected?

A

posterior compartment

tibial n. damage in vingette = typically motor/sensory tests involving lower leg

18
Q

Hamstrings (what 3 muscles?) - action and innervation?
(PC)

A

semimembranosus (most medial)
semitendinosus (longer, more distinct tendon)
biceps femoris (long head) (lateral)

A: flexion of knee, extension of thigh (think ‘donkey kick’); some minor medial/lateral rotation
I: tibial part of sciatic n.

*also note adductor magnus has hamstring component; aifs hip extension, tibial n. innerv.

19
Q

biceps femoris (short head) - action and innervation?
(PC)

A

A: flexion of knee (NO extension fxn dt attachment)
I: common fibular n. (other branch of sciatic)

20
Q

what is the pes anserinus? what muscles attach?

A

pes anserinus = union point of all 3 compartments along the medial aspect of the leg

gracilis - MC
semitendinosus - PC
sartorius - AC
