I: inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2)
A: hip extension, lateral rotation of hip, upper fibers abduct the hip, lower fibers adduct the hip. through its insertion into the iliotibial band, it stabilizes the knee.
Gluteus Medius

D: oblique ridge on the lateral surface of the greater trochanter
I: superior gluteal nerve (inferior branch) (L4-S1)
A: abducts the hip joint. anterior fibers medially rotate and assist in flexion of the hip joint; the posterior fibers laterally rotate and assist in hip extension.
Gluteus Minimus
