Low Order Techniques Flashcards
What are the advantages of destroy in situ?
Quick
Minimal risk to operator
No touching required
Only 1 approach
What are the 4 UXO disposal techniques?
Mark and avoid
Destroy in situ (high order)
Low order
Fuze immunisation or remove (RSP)
What are the disadvantages to high order?
Damage to surrounding areas
What are the advantages to low order?
Minimal damage
Minimal time at target
Decrease risk to operator
What are the disadvantages to low order?
Only use if high order is acceptable
Safety distances are to be for worse case scenario
May involve further approaches to burn or demolish
What are the advantages to fuze immunisation?
No damage to surrounding area
intelligence could be gained
What are the disadvantages to fuze immunisation?
Time consuming
Increased risk to operator
What are the 4 low order techniques/results?
Deflegation
Mechanical break up
Burning
Cutting and burning
What is deflegation?
Is a means to gain entry into a munition without causing unacceptable detonation.
Much of the explosive content is either consumed or is spread about the area
Fuzes may be left in an unsafe state
What is mechanical break up?
When the munition is broken open and there is no reaction to the contents
This allows access to the fill for burning.
What is the burning method?
Burning is achieved by using a high temperature incendiary charge to destroy the explosive content
What is cutting and burning?
Casing is explosively cut open and the filling is ignighted in a single operation
What are the methods of attack?
Projectile attack (PAT) Baldrick Round Tom Doner disk Skylight Cut and Burn (CLC) AUSDISC CDLC mechanical break up Crackerbarrell VULCAN
Which projectiles are suitable for submunitions and large iron bombs?
- 56/7.62 submunitions
0. 5”/30mm large iron bombs
What are the 4 projectile attack effects?
Detonation
Deflagation
Mechanical break up
Burning
What are the disadvantages of a projectile attack?
It can only be used against HE filled ordnance
Ricochets may occur
Weapon danger area (area down range)
When cutting and burning a rocket motor which three parts do we simultaneously attack?
Venturi
Motor head
Center of body
When packing PE7 into a Baldrick what do you use?
Non metallic stemming rod
How much PE7 do you load into an AUSDISC?
227g 8oz
What stand off do we use when deploying a Baldrick?
200mm
When aiming a Baldrick what do we stay clear from?
Fuzing pockets
Strong points
How do we position a Crackerbarrell when removing a fuze from the munition?
50mm stand off
Square on to the longitudinal axis
Butted up inline with the fuze joint
What is the purpose if the expanded foam layer in the Crackerbarrell?
To prevent spalling
How many SX2 sheets are required for the Doner Disc against a 155mm projectile?
3 sheets thick
How many SX2 sheets are required for the Doner Disc against a 1000lb bomb?
5-8 sheets thick
What distances should each Donor Disc should be placed from the tail of a 1000lb bomb?
275mm from the base
Then another a further 300mm up from the base
When attempting a double AUSDISC attack how far apart are they to be positioned?
500mm
What does CDLC mean?
Charge Demolition Linear Cutting
How many SX2 sheets are required for Crackerbarrell?
3 sheets thick
How many components worth of charges are supplied with Vulcan?
10 charges
What’s the standoff for Baldrick?
200mm
What is the standoff for Crackerbarrell?
50mm
How many legs comes in a pack for the Vulcan?
30
How much PE7 fits into an explosive measure for the Vulcan?
20g
