What happened?
Jefferson sent James Monroe to paris to join forces with Robert Livingston. He was instructed to buy New Orleans and as much land around it for a maximum of $10 million.
If the Purchase failed, what would happen?
If it failed, negotiations would be open with British foreign alliance
What did Napoleon finally do?
- He ended his conflict with Britain because he feared he would be forced to give them the gift of Louisiana. He sold Louisiana to the U.S and pocketed the money
