- Frederick Douglas was a black man who ran away, bought his slavery, and spoke against slavery
- He wrote his own autobiography and his own newspaper The North Star
- He also turned to politics to end slavery not violence.
What influence did the Second Great Awakening have on abolitionism?
- Influenced many reforms, especially the abolitionist movement
- It inspired many abolitionists to fight for the cause.

Why did the slave refuges’ fail?
because many blacks thought of themselves as American and they didn’t want to go back to Africa

Compromise of 1850
Many abolitionists were outraged by this because it repealed the Compromise of 1820 but most northerners then indirectly repealed the Fugitive Slave Act
Politics
3rd parties such as the Liberty and Free Soil Party emerged with abolitionism in mind with the exception of the Free Soil Party where racist people also indulged in.
