mechanism of action
positive allosteric modulator for GABAa receptors- binds to benzo receptor side on chloride channels and potentiates the binding and effects of GABA -increases intracellular CL-concentration leading to hyperpolarization of the cell

hypotension, drowsiness, amnesia, respiratory depression, blurred vision, altered mental status, n+v
dose adult
seizure 4 mg IV, IO
pre medication , anxiety, withdrawal 0.5mg-2mg slow IV, IO / 1-4 mg IM
Post intubation 2-4 mg slow IV, IO q 5-10 minutes
pedi dose
0.05mg/kg slow IV/IO
precautions
may cause CNS and respiratory depression
caution with acute alcohol intoxication
drug on drug interactions
additive effects with CNS depressants and alcohol
