- Inhibits Na+ & CL- in loop of Henle, and therefore H2O
2. Dilates blood vessels

Indications
A
- HTN
2. Fluid overload / edema associated with CHF, hepatic, or renal disease

Precautions
A
- Impaired renal function
- Pre-existing dehydration
- Pre-existing electrolyte disturbance (hypokalemia)

Contraindications
A
- Chronic renal failure
- Untreated dehydration / electrolyte disturbances
- Sulfa allergy

- Electrolyte disturbances = hypokalemia
