Autosomal recessive
2
Q
What are the associated medical findings of Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome?
A
- Prolonged QTc
- Profound sensorineural deafness
- Ventricular tachyarrhythmia
- High risk of sudden cardiac death
3
Q
What is the pathophysiology of Jervell and Lange-Nielsen Syndrome?

Gene mutation in cardiac potassium channels

Q
What are the associated medical findings for Romano-Ward Syndrome?
A
- Long QTc
- Syncope
- Sudden death
- Seizures
- Palpitations with exercise or intense emotions
5
Q
What is the pathophysiology of Romano-Ward syndrome?
A
Six distinct molecular genotypes
6
Q
what are the recommendations?
A
- Family members must be screened once proband diagnosed
- Consider screening ECG in patients with congenital profound sensorineural deafness
- High index of suspicion if family history positive for drowning or sudden cardiac death
- Treat with beta-blockers
- Avoid high risk situations - vigorous exercise, swimming alone
