1) Less crime, as cities have larger crime rates
2) More greenery, higher quality of life & natural beauty
3) Housing prices - Cheaper housing, as cities have more “competition” so higher prices
4) Family connection - taking care of family
What are the characteristics of urban to rural migration in England?
1) Families moving, Parents in 30s/40s with Children
2) Retirees move: individuals/couples in their 60s/70s
3) Family Group/Retiree buys a property
4) Villages/Town they move to have some services
5) Families identify good schools nearby
6) People move to rural areas that are accessible (railways/motorways)
7) People move to villages within reach of a larger urban centre
8) For the family group, usually one adult still works in an urban centre and commutes by car/train
9) Family group have a car, and most income is earned outside the village
10) Migrants often lift house prices over time (more difficult for young “local” people to live there
