Earthquakes Flashcards
1
Q
How do earthquakes occur at a conservative plate boundary?
A
1) Convection currents cause the plates to move in parallel but opposite directions
2) Tectonics plate have high asperity, leading to high friciton and the plates having the inability to slide past, so they lock
3) When the force of sheer stress is greater than friction, there is a sudden movement of plates, called a strike slip fault
4) Seismic waves released from sudden movement; released when rock rebounds

Q
What is the order in magnitude of waves?
A
