How has Londons population changed
-it’s been growing for the last 200 years in 1801 growing rapidly during the Industrial Revolution and migration
-it reached its peak during the Second World War and then started to go down as bombs fell
-however it’s been increasing since 1991 and will become a mega city in 2030

-Londons population is much larger then any other city it also has a younger population
-young people move to London for a work,education and a better social life
-migrants add to Londons population as well as people arrive others leave this is a process called net migration

-London is the most diverse city in the uk less then half of Londons population is of white origin
-the EU expansion and globalisation have changed Londons immigration rates the EU expansion has led to an influx of migrants form Eastern European countries
-these migrants sought employment and contributed to Londons labour market mostly in areas such as construction,hospitality,and healthcare

-population growth:influenced demand for housing,services,and infrastructure
-cultural diversity:the migrant population has brought different cultures,languages,and traditions to the city
-economic contributions:migrants have filled gaps in the labour market such as healthcare,education,and housing, they bring valuable skills knowledge and entrepreneurship
-social challenges the increase of population due to migration has put pressure on public services such as healthcare,education,and housing also tensions rise between different cultural groups
-urban development:migrants often settle in specific areas forming ethnic enclaves or cultural hubs leading to the development of distinct neighbourhoods
What is Shoreditch
A district in the east end of London
It was once a run down inner city area with ageing factories and abandoned warehouses
It now has a diverse population
What is the cultural mix found in Shoreditch
-The old industrial structures have transformed into residential flats and office spaces
-pubs and bars have been revamped into restaurants and art galleries
-new job opportunities have emerged in creative industries such as web design,filmmaking,art
-the rapid influx of tech companies have earned the moniker silicon roundabout
Opportunities for recreation and entertainment in Shoreditch
-as the older residents and Bangladeshi families leave due to increased rent and property prices causing young professionals to replace them
-this has made Shoreditch one of the liveliest London areas.During the day bustling cafes cater to the young crowd while at night clubs and bar fill the streets.the walls are adorned with graffiti and art work attracting visitors
-the Spitalfields market site was redeveloped as a popular shopping area that hosts various retail brands,street food stalls,bars and restaurants,and handcrafted goods such as jewellery or fashion
Why did the London docks decline
-the docks used to facilitate the handling of large quantities goods such as flour,timber,ect
-however with the advent of container ships in the 1970s the docks became inadequate
Why have new industries grown
-The government established the London dock land’s development corporation to revitalise the area around the dock by attracting private investment
-one of the key features of the revitalised docklands area is Canary Wharf which now boasts high rise office buildings,and international banks with over 100,000 people employed there
-the docklands has helped make London a major global financial centre
What employment opportunities does London offer
-there have been a rise in jobs in the service sector particularly in professional real estate and business services law,real estate,advertising
-there have been a decline in manufacturing jobs with few factories remaining
What is the London cross rail
A complex travel system which helps reduce traffic congestion and co2 emissions
-London underground:the new Elizabeth line links central London to the suburbs encouraging more people to use transport
-Oyster cards: a payment method that people use to pay for buses,trains,and tubes
Bike sharing schemes:self hire bikes that are available across London,this encourages people to cycle rather then drive
Why is there a need for improved transport
It struggles to keep with the number of passengers due to population growth and more work opportunities
