Q

when is a takeoff alternate required?

A

when it is not possible to return to the departure aerodrome due to weather or performance reasons. therefore minima will depend on the available approach

Q

what is required of an take-off alternate?

A

must be within 1 hours flight time at 1 engine cruise speed. if there is no speed for this in the AFM, use the speed with max engines at MCP

Q

what perf requirements must be achieved at the planning stage with regard to landing?

15
Q

if we are in controlled airspace and require an emergency descent, what is our course of action?

A
  • initiate a turn away from assigned route or track before descent
  • advise ATC ASAP
  • Squawk 7700
  • turn on all lights
  • watch for traffic visually and with TAS
  • coordiante with ATC
  • don’t descend below MSA

16
Q

where is RVSM applied in the European airspace concept?

A

FL290-FL410

17
Q

what must we do to the cloud minima if flying an autopilot coupled approach?

A

increase by 1.25 (so increase from 200ft to 250ft in DA42) but the autopilot may remain engaged until 200ft to keep the approach stable

18
Q

when could the DA/MDA be adjusted?

A
  • pressure error correction
  • engine out allowance if ACA/H is above published minima
  • cold temperatures which could cause instruments to overread
