Describe the location of the Champagne appellation.
In the north of France 150km to the east of Paris.
Where is Alsace?
In the north east of France bordering Germany. The Vosges mountains run along it’s western edge. The appellation is located at 47.5-49 degrees north of the equator.
Describe the geographical location of Bordeaux.
In the south west of France located either side of the Gironde estuary. The region is split into the left and right banks after their position in regard to the Gironde, and the Entre-deux-Mares (between two seas).
Where is Burgundy located?
In the mid east of France from the north western region of Chablis south to the regions of Cote Chalonaise and the Maconais.
Describe the location of the Loire Valley.
Situated on the upper mid western coast of France, the Loire Valley is located to the south west of Paris, it stretches 800km from the Atlantic coast to the central vineyards of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume. The region is dominated by the Loire River. The Sevre and Maine rivers are also a major influence.
Where is the appellation of Limoux?
Located in the Langeudoc in the south of France in the eastern Pyrenean foothills, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Limoux is located in it’s west and is the furthest inland and highest appellation in Languedoc. It lies to the south of the town of Carcassone.
Where is Die?
Defined as in the Rhone appellation in the south of France but physically lies between the Northern Rhone and the Alps. It is centred around the town of Die which itself lies on the Drome tributary between Valence and Montlimar.
Where is Cava produced?
Produced mainly in Cataluna in the north east of Spain centred around the town of San Sarduni de Noya. Cava can also be produced in Navarra, Rioja, Aragon, Valencia and the Basque Country.
Where does most base wine for Sekt come from?
From outside of Germany mainly other EU countries such as Spain, France and Italy.
Describe where Prosecco originates.
From Veneto in the north east of Italy. Veneto stretches from Lake Garda in the west to the Alps in the north. DOCG Prosecco comes from 15 communes between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobiadenne. DOC Prosecco comes from Treviso in Veneto and Trieste in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Where is Franciacorta?
Franciacorta is in Lombardia in Italy’s central north bordering Switzerland.
Describe the geography of Lambrusco.
Lambrusco comes from the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, it is produced in three provinces, we will focus solely on Modena. E-R lies in the central north of Italy, from the Adriatic coast of Romagna to the inland tracts of Emilia, it lies directly to the south of Veneto and Lombardia. Modena lies in the centre of the appellation and stretches from Lombardia in the north to Toscana in the south. The alluvial river plain of the Po is a major influencer in the region.
Where is Asti?
Asti is located in a delimited area in Piemonte, in the northwest of Italy in the foothills of the Alps. Production is centred around the town of Canelli.
Wheer is the Yarra Valley and what zone is it located in?
Located to the northeast of Melbourne in the Port Phillip Zone.
Where are the Adelaide Hills located?
They are located in the state of South Australia, at around 450-550m within the Mount Lofty Ranges zone.
