The region is dominated by the Loire River. The Sevre and Maine rivers are also a major influence.

Modena lies in the centre of the appellation and stretches from Lombardia in the north to Toscana in the south. The alluvial river plain of the Po is a major influencer in the region.

Willamette Valley - A vast AVA in Oregon - also on the Pacific Northwest - which runs along the Willamette River from Portland in the North to Eugene in the South. Premium sparkling vineyards are planted in the Dundee Hills in red soils at 110-330m.
