Describe the location of the Loire Valley.

A

Situated on the upper mid western coast of France, the Loire Valley is located to the south west of Paris, it stretches 800km from the Atlantic coast to the central vineyards of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume. The region is dominated by the Loire River. The Sevre and Maine rivers are also a major influence.

Where is the appellation of Limoux?

A

Located in the Langeudoc in the south of France in the eastern Pyrenean foothills, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Limoux is located in it’s west and is the furthest inland and highest appellation in Languedoc. It lies to the south of the town of Carcassone.

A

From Veneto in the north east of Italy. Veneto stretches from Lake Garda in the west to the Alps in the north. DOCG Prosecco comes from 15 communes between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobiadenne. DOC Prosecco comes from Treviso in Veneto and Trieste in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Describe the geography of Lambrusco.

A

Lambrusco comes from the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, it is produced in three provinces, we will focus solely on Modena. E-R lies in the central north of Italy, from the Adriatic coast of Romagna to the inland tracts of Emilia, it lies directly to the south of Veneto and Lombardia. Modena lies in the centre of the appellation and stretches from Lombardia in the north to Toscana in the south. The alluvial river plain of the Po is a major influencer in the region.

Describe the location of the sparkling wine appellations of Oregon and Washington states.

A

Colombia Valley AVA - Located in the East of Washington state - a state on the Pacific Northwest coast - to the east of the Cascade mountains. It also reaches into Oregon state covering 11,000 acres.

Willamette Valley - A vast AVA in Oregon - also on the Pacific Northwest - which runs along the Willamette River from Portland in the North to Eugene in the South. Premium sparkling vineyards are planted in the Dundee Hills in red soils at 110-330m.

A

Stellenbosch - Located in the southwest of SA on the Western Cape 45km from Cape Town.

Franschhoek - Further inland in the district of Paarl, 75km from Cape Town but still considered part of the Western Cape wine lands.

A

Constantia - on the Western Cape and considered the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Located on a slim peninsula on the Western Cape bordered either side by the sea.

Robertson - Even further inland in the Breede River Valley region, vineyard are located along the Breede River.

Limari - Located in Coquimbo which is 60km to the north of Santiago and 20kms from the coast.

Casablanca - Part of the Aconcagua region which lies on the coast near Valparaiso 75km northwest of Santiago.

A

Leyda - Also in the Aconcagua region 75km Northwest of Santiago), the region is bisected by the Aconcagua river.
