What is the climate of Champagne?

A

Champagne has a cool continental climate, with cold winters and warm summers. Spring frosts are a viticultural hazard as is rain throughout the growing period and winter freeze. Champagne also has significant maritime influence which is a major influencer. Average annual temperature is just 11°C. The annual sunshine hours of the region are 1650.

What is the climate of Loire Valley?

A

A variety of nuances exist due to the size of the appellation.

Saumur - has a maritime climate, it is protected from winds from the west by hills, and given continentality the further from the Loire they are.

Anjou - Temperate maritime climate with influence from the Atlantic. The forest of Vendee to the southwest protects the region, average annual rainfall is 500mm.

Touraine - Varied, the west shows influence from the Atlantic and the east is semi continental with cold winters.

A

Limoux is bordered on three sides by the pyrenees, the chalabrais plateau and the lecamp plateau which means the area has a maritime influenced mediterranean climate. Its altitude plays a major role in moderating its climate also.

A

Washington State - The Cascade mountains cause a rain shadow effect making much of eastern Washington state very dry, with very hot summers and freezing winters, winter freeze being a problem. In Columbia State AVA we have a moderate continental climate with frost being a viticultural hazard.

Oregon has a cool continental climate with much more exposure to the ocean than Washington. Oregon is very wet but must of the rain falls in October to April.
