Location and Transportation Flashcards
What does a building’s location affect?
It’s environmental impact, health and wellness of occupants, and carbon footprint.

Which rating systems do LT credits apply to?
New Construction, Schools, Core & Shell, Retail, Healthcare, Data Centers, Hospitality, Warehouses/Distribution Centers.
Does not include:
commercial interiors, existing buildings, homes and multifamily lowrise, multifamily mid-rise, plan, and built project systems.
LT Neighborhood Development Purpose/Requirement/Note
Purpose: To leverage existing LEED for ND projects registered under LEED 2009 or LEED V4
Requirement: Locate the project within boundary of development certified under LEED for neighborhood development.
Note: Projects apply for this cannot apply for points in other LT credits
LT Sensitive Land Protection Purpose/Requirement/Notes
Purpose: to reduce the impact of development and sensitive lands.
Requirements: Project boundary cannot be on prime farmland, floodplains, any area that is listed as habitat for an endangered species, land within 50 feet of wetlands, land within 100 feet from bodies of water.
LT High Priority Site Purpose/Requirements/Notes
Purpose: To encourage project location in areas with development constraints and promote health of the surrounding area.
Requirements: 1) Locate the project in an infill location in a “historic district”. 2)Locate the project in an area that is designated as a priority by federal, state or town government organization. 3) develop on a brownfield site by remediating that site.
Notes: Exemplary performance point may be awarded by combining 2 or more of these options.
LT Surrounding Density and Diverse Uses Purpose/Requirements/Notes
Purpose: To protect sensitive land, encourage development near to existing infrastructure, reduce greenhouse gas emissions from vehicular transport, and encourage human physical activity.
Requirements: 1) Surrounding Density: meet population density requirements 1/4 mile of the project. 2) Diverse Uses: locate the project within a 1/2 mile walking distance of specific commercial, retail, community services or facilities.
Notes: (2-3) points for option 1 or 2. (1) point for 4-7 and (2) points for 8+ existing publicly available Diverse Uses, listed under LEED BD+C V4 reference guide, 1/2 mile form project entrance.
- Food Retail
- Community-Serving Retail
- Services
- Civic and Community Facilities
- Community Anchor Uses (BD+C and ID+C
- Commercial Office (100+ full time jobs)
LT Access to Quality Transit Purpose/Requirements/Notes
Purpose: To promote bicycling, reduce motor vehicle use and enhance human health.
Requirements: There are two options to earn the credit for Bicycle Facilities. 1) Bicycle Network 2) Bicycle Storage and Shower Rooms.
Notes:
Bicycle Network - Locate the project within 200 yards from BN that connects at least 10 Diverse Uses, or a bus rapid transit stop, Light or heavy rail station, commuter rail station, or ferry terminal.
Shower Rooms -
Commercial and Institutional - Short term storage for 2.5% of visitors or at least 4 spaces per building.
- Long term bicycle storage for 5% of regular building occupants with at least 4 storage spaces per building
-At least 1 shower + changing facility for 1st 100 occupants, plus optional shower for each additional 150 occupants.
Residential Projects - Short term bicycle storage for 2.5% of peak visitors or 4 spaces
- Long term bicycle storage for 30% of regular occupants with at least 1 long term storage space.
All projects - Bicycle storage must be within 100 feet of main entrance of functional entry.
LT Reduce Parking Footprint Purpose/Requirements/Notes
Purpose: To reduce the environmental impact of parking facilities, such as motor vehicle dependence, increased impervious land use, and increased stormwater runoff.
Requirements: 1) not exceed the minimum local code requirements for parking capacity. 2) provide parking that is 20-40% lower than the stated base ratios recommended by the Parking Consultants Council, as shown in the Institute of Transportation Engineers Transportation Planning Handbook.
Notes: Additional (1) point may be gained by providing parking capacity that is 60-80% lower than the stated base ratios and by incorporating strategies such as parking space leasing, pedestrian travel, bicycles and public transportation usage.
LT Green Vehicle Purpose/Requirement/Notes
Purpose: LEED encourages and rewards the use of alternatives to conventionally automobile transportation.
Requirements: A Green Vehicle achieves a minimum green score of 45 on the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) annual vehicle rating guide.
Notes: (1) point may be awarded for this if 5% of all parking spaces are used for preferred parking for Green Vehicles. Alternate - green vehicles may be provided with a discounted parking rate of at least 20%. This rate must be posted at the entrance of any paid parking.
(1) additional point may also be achieved if 1) Electric Vehicle Charging equipment in 2% of all parking spaces is provided and designated for EVs only. or 2) Liquid or gas alternative fueling facility or battery switching station for 2% of all parking spaces.
Alternative Fuel
Hydrogen or electricity
