localisation of functiom Flashcards
rts: broca
case study, man lost ability to speak could only say tan, could still understand language, post mortem showed damage in left hemisphere (brocas area) supports LOF as broca’s area is the production of spoken language
rtc PATIENT EB
drain damage resulted in removal of left hemisphere, removal of language centres, after some time EB regained some language ability, not possible if all language centres in left hemisphere, language in more areas, suggest holistic explanation more appropriate
discussion
lacks population validity some research shows broca’s area not only in left hemisphere, more research needed
rtc: lashley and the rats
removed areas of the cortex 10-50% in rats learning a maze, no area more important than other areas in rats ability to learn a maze, requires all areas of the cortex, supports a hollistic approach
