Localisation Of Brain Function Flashcards
1
Q
Frontal lobe
A
- Located around forehead.
- Involved in thinking and creativity also linked with personality.
- Concerned with emotions, planning, reasoning and our speech.
- Damage: leads to changes in sexual habits, socialisation, attention and increased risk taking.
2
Q
Parietal Lobe
A
- Located behind frontal lobe.
- Processes nerve impulses and receive sensory information e.g. Temperature, touch, pain etc.
- Damage: results in Gertsmanns Syndrome = includes left, right confusion and difficulties with writing and mathematics.
3
Q
Temporal lobe
A
- Located either side of the brain.
- Responsible for memory processing and processing auditory information.
- Includes hippocampus.
- Damage = leads to problems with memory and language skills.
4
Q
Occipital Lobe
A
- Located at the back of the brain.
- Receives information directly from the eyes and is concerned with visual processing.
- Allows us to recognise objects.
- Damage = causes visual problems, difficulty recognising objects, inability to identify colours and recognise words.
5
Q
Localisation of brain function.
A
- Principle that certain areas of the brain are responsible for different functions.
- They have specific objects or tasks to carry out.
- Brain receives information from sensory organs and about position of the body. The cerebal cortex others brain and is responsible for higher order cognitive functions.
6
Q
Localisation of language
A
- Specific areas of the brain linked to the processing of language.
Broca’s Area = Speech production.
Wernickes Area = understanding language.
