Questionnaires/surveys advantages
Web based surveys can be distributed to many people at the same time
When answers are limited choice or boolean, comparisons are easy to view
Cheaper than interviews or panels for many people
Questionnaires/surveys disadvantages
Unless it is a hard copy an internet connection is required to complete
Text answers can be time consuming to analyze
People may be more likely to lie when not face to face
Email advantages
1 email can be sent to many people at once
Questionnaires can be distributed easily, cheaply, and quickly via email
most people have email addresses
Email disadvantages
Unless limited choice options are provided, data will need to be analysed manually
Emails may be ignored or mistakenly sent to spam folders
Internet connection required
Sensor advantages
One set up, they can be left alone
The data collected is accurate
They can be cheap because only the device and electricity needs to be paid for
Sensor disadvantages
A bad position might mean no data is collected they can be tampered with
They need a supply of electricity
They may stop working without you realizing
Interviews advantages
Questions can be adapted on the fly for more clarification to get more information
The human interaction can lead to more detailed and honest answers
Interviews disadvantages
They can be expensive to run, and require a lot of the interviewer’s time
It is hard to interview many people in a short space of time
A physical location is needed unless it is a video interview
A consumer panel is
A group of people who are asked their opinion about products or ideas
Consumer panel advantages
You can question the panel on the specifics of your product or idea
The panel are likely to be engaged, as they agreed to be part of it
More people willing to take part
Responses are high
Relatively cheap
Consumer panel disadvantages
They can be expensive to run, and each of the panel may require materials to test
The panel may not be diverse enough to represent normal society, so their feedback may not be useful
Loyalty scheme advantages
When customers use their loyalty scheme card at checkout, their data can be tracked, so supermarket knows their habits and their shopping history.
A business wants to know what its most loyal customers are buying
They can be targeted with specific adverts or offers
It is very easy to capture a large amount of data of the customers pirchases.
You can use the data from the scheme to look for trends and patterns and make predicts of those.
A loyalty scheme advantages
The business not only gets more information but also may get customers buying with them more often
Information is collected every time the customers purchases an item
A loyalty scheme disadvantages
They may give their loyalty scheme account or card to friends or relatives
Customers may forget to use their card so store may not get accurate data because some sales are not recorded.
A statistical report
presents information found from sampling part of the population. They are often presented by the government departments and charities
