Definition of “safeguarding”
measures taken to protect people’s health, wellbeing and rights, enabling them to be kept safe from harm, abuse and neglect.
What are some reasons why individuals might be more at risk of abuse?
They have a learning disability

They lack mental capacity - such as having dementia

What does safeguarding children involve (4 points)
Protecting children from maltreatment
Preventing impairment of children’s health and development
Ensuring children grow up in a stable home
Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
What do DBS checks ensure?
That individuals are safe to work or volunteer with vulnerable adults and children.
What is included in a standard DBS checks?
Checks for criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings

An additional check of any information held by police that is relevant to the role applied to
