Formal brief
Meeting between client and producer, client will outline requirements.
Informal brief
Discuss requirements during a telephone call. No documentation, verbal agreement will be reached.
Contractual brief
Brief is outlined within a contract of employment.
Commissioned brief
Client will hire an independent media company to create their product, being overseen by a commissioner from the client.
Tender brief
Client will advertise for a production company, production companies will bid for the work by submitting a proposal/pitch.
Negotiated brief
Client and producer will work together to create the brief.
Implicit requirements
Inferred from the brief (usability, performance).
Open requirements
Some freedom to make decisions (number of people to include, location to film).
Constraints
Boundaries that the product must work within (time, type of media product).
Explicit requirements
Clearly stated requirements that must be met (genre, theme, target audience).
Demographics
Physical traits (age, race, gender, sexuality).
Psychographics
What they like/dislike (interests, attitudes, goals, desires).
Geodemographics
Where they live (country, city, county).
Tools for creating ideas in order
Blue sky thinking, mind map, moodboard, SWOT.
