LO13 + 14 : Terms of hub height and rotor diameter, critical factors used to determine hub height, Critical factors used to determine hub height. Flashcards
Ex 7.24 Q1
What a wind resource assessment is and how it is used in determining hub height.
A wind resource assessment is when wind anemometers are placed on a steel pole which is placed vertically above the ground. The pole is fixed to the ground at various locations and the anemometer is attached at different heights such as 25 and 35m. The reason for doing this is many manufacturers of a specific model offer the wind turbine with 2 different tower heights. As then the test is taken and the wind speed isnt a big difference then getting a higher tower may not be necessary.
State the 3 other parameters, apart from wind resource assessment, used in determining the hub height required for a wind turbine project.
Terrain, wind turbine size, visual impact.
State the general equation between rotor diameter and hub height.
Rotor diameter is radius x2
2 critical factors which must be taken into consideration when determining the hub height of a wind turbine
Visual impact of the turbine
Wind Resource assessment of the site.
Size of the turbine/blade length
