money paid for a brand to be associated with the final media production
what is crowdfunding?
finance generated by amateurs or professionals for a project/idea through public contributions. Usually through social media networks (such as kickstarter)

an investment with a business. the business must be convinced that they will recieve more money back in the long run from their investment
what is advertising?
money in return for product placement
what is franchising?
A person or group of people the right to market a product or service using the trademark or trade name of another business

what is the freedom of information act?
Provides public access to information held by public authorities
What is the intellectual property act?
if you have worked to produce a piece of work such as an image, script, article or graphic then it is your intellectual property. If someone wants to use it, they require your permission. If you produce the work while working for an organisation, you do not own the intellectual property of that time, the organisation does.
What is the data protection act?
Everyone responsible for using personal data must make sure the information is: used fairly, lawfully and transparently
What is the copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988?
Gives creators of digital media the rights to control how their work is used and distributed
What is slander?
The action of crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person’s reputation
What is libel?
A published false statement that is damaging to a person’s reputation; a written defamation

The control or guidance of media content by governments and other bodies. This means media production and consumption are monitored

The Advertising Standards Agency regulate all broadcast and non-broadcast content across the UK
What is Ofcom and what does it stand for?
The Office of Communications regulate all broadcasted content across UK television channels.
What is PEGI and what does it stand for?
Pan European Game Information have classified all video game content in the UK.
What is Censorship?
This is when content is considered harmful by regulators and is then cut or edited from media products for the benefit of the consumer
