Q

Methods of challenging discrimination

A

Challenging at the time

  • speak to the individual and explain how they are discriminating
  • ask them to reflect on what they did
  • report the incident to senior staff/manager

Challenge afterwards through procedure
- show the individual the relevant policies e.g. bullying policy
- discuss at a senior management level so that they can address
the issue with training or disciplinary action

Challenge through long-term proactive campaigning
- provide regular training for staff over time to raise awareness of
correct ways of working so they can address the issue if they
observe any discriminatory practice
- send the person who has been discriminating on an equality and
diversity course
- run sessions/workshops about the values of care
