Living in an Active Zone Flashcards
Four types of plate boundaries?
Destructive, Constructive, Collision and Conservative
What are Primary Hazards?
Occur as a direct result of Earthquake or Volcanic eruption. For example, buildings collapsing, roads breaking and deaths resulting from these.
What are Secondary Hazards?
Occur because of a change in environment following an earthquake or volcanic eruption. Gas or Water pipes might break causing fires. Others include homelessness and businesses going bankrupt.
What type of boundaries do Volcanoes only occur on?
Destructive and Constructive boundaries.
Five reasons why people live in Hazard Zones?
1) Tourism
2) Geothermal Energy
3) Fertile Soils
4) Metal Ores (Copper, Gold, Lead, Zinc etc)
5) May not be able to afford to move
Three ways of monitoring volcanoes?
1) Remote sensing (Temp and Gas emissions)
2) Seismometers (Measure earthquake activity)
3) Ultrasound (Detecting movement of Magma)
