Liver Histo Flashcards
Pathway of blood through the liver
Portal vein branches of portal vein hepatic sinusoids central veins sublobular vein hepatic vein inferior vena cava
Both the portal vein and hepatic artery empty into what?
Hepatic sinusoid
What are hepatic sinusoids lined by?
Endothelial cells Kupffer cells (macrophages) Perisinusoidal fat storing cell (lipocyte)
What do lipocytes store?
Vitamin A
Why do endothelial cells have fenestrae?
To allow chylomicrons and plasma to come in contact with parenchymal cells
Each liver parenchymal cells contains a lot of what organelle?
Golgi complexes!
What is the Space of Disse?
Perisinusoidal space between liver cords and endothelium
3 types of liver lobules?
Classic
Portal
Acinus
Structure of classic liver lobule?
Central vein
Outlined by lines that bind the portal areas (portal canals or spaces)
Structure of portal lobule?
Center is portal space/canal
Periphery is outlined by lines that bind 3 central veins
Bile flows from periphery to center
Blood flows from center to periphery
Center of liver acinus?
Terminal branch of the portal vein & hepatic artery
Direction of bile flow in liver acinus?
Periphery to center
Direction of blood flow in liver acinus?
Center to periphery
What happens to oxygen tension and nutrient level of blood as it moves from center to periphery in liver acinus?
Both decrease!
Most in zone 1…least in zone 3
What does each portal canal area contain?
Branches of hepatic artery, portal vein, and bile duct.
