Liver And Urinary Flashcards
Glycogen granules
Stored in fed state
Kupffer cell
Macrophages in liver destroying damaged RBCs and pathogens
Space of disse
Perisinusoidal space- gaps between endothelial cells
Bile duct
Bile secreted into duct, flows in opposite direction to blood
Sinusoid capillaries
Portal vein and hepatic artery branches into these
Central vein
Drains blood from liver back into heart
Bile canaliculi
Where bile is secreted by hepatocytes
Antidiuretic hormone
Controls water reabsorption
Podocyte
Foot cell- part of filtration layer of epithelial cells
Mesangial cells
Composes mesangium of renal corpuscle- contractile- regulates blood flow and has phagocytic activity
Juxtaglomerular cells
Specialised smooth muscle cells of wall of efferent arterioles
Cortex
Profuse blood supply where ultrafiltration occurs
Medulla
Poorer blood supply, has tubules and blood vessels
Renal calyx
Where urine passes before going into renal pelvis
Nephron
Functional unit of kidney- achieves regulatory role
Renal/ Malpighian corpuscle
Where ultrafiltration occurs
Glomerulus
Network f capillaries for afferent arteries
Bowman’s capsule
Surrounds glomerulus- invaginated sphere
Vasa recta
Vessels descending into medulla of nephron
Mesangium
Component of renal corpuscles, providing structural support to glomerulus, regulates blood flow
Juxtaglomerular apparatus
Participates in tubuloglomerular feedback, has macula dense and JG cells
Macula densa
Specialised region of distal convoluted tubule- promotes renin secretion
Bladder umbrella cells
Cover multiple epithelial cells
Transitional epithelium
Epithelium able to deal with stretch- varies
