Liver and metabolism Flashcards
What is metabolism?
Combination of all anabolic and catabolic reactions.
Give a few examples that energy is required for in the body?
Motion, transport, biosynthesis of essential metabolites and thermoregulation.
When is a reaction Exergonic (spontaneous) or endergonic
exergonic when change in G <0 and vice versa.
What is coupling?
Endergonic reactions can be driven in the forward direction by coupling it to an exergonic reaction.
What is SLP
substrate-level phosphorylation, formation of ATP by a phosphate group transfer from a substrate to ADP, enzyme-mediated.
What do prosthetic groups do
they are covalently bonded to an enzyme and act as a temp store for electrons.
Where is the ETC located
Located in the inner mitochondrial membrane
How many steps are there in the Krebs cycle and what is the compound at each stage.
8 different steps- ACIKSSFMO
How many components does the ETC have and what are they linked by
4 components (Complex 1,2,3 and 4) they are linked by 2 soluble proteins ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10) and cytochrome c
