the perspective from which a story is told
point of view
The character; “I”, “we”; describes only what the narrator is thinking and what he or she witnesses
first person
the narrator stands outside the story and describes the actions and words of all of the characters but the thoughts and feelings
third person limited
the narrator stands outside the action but knows all and sees all; can also relate the thoughts and feelings of all the character
Third person omniscient

The deliberate use of many conjunctions often slowing the tempo or rhythm.
polysyndeton
the main character in a story
protagonist
a device in which sounds, words, phrases, lines or stanzas are repeated exactly for emphasis in a poem, speech or other piece of writing
repetition

any kind of writing, speaking (or art) that ridicules or mocks some weakness in individuals or society.
satire
the time and place in which a story occurs
setting
the beginning; gives background information, introduces setting, characters and conflict
exposition
the point at which the author catches the reader’s attention
narrative hook
the conflict is obvious; characters struggle to resolve the conflict; suspense builds up
rising action
the turning point (conflict is resolved); this results in a change in the characters
climax
how’s the effects of the climax
falling action
tells how the struggle ends; ties up any loose end
resolution
