Define lipoma
A
• Slow-growing, benign adipose tumours that are most often found in the subcutaneous tissues

What are the causes/risk factors of lipoma?
A
• Benign tumours of adipocytes • Conditions associated with lipomas - Familial multiple lipomatosis - Gardner's syndrome - Dercum's disease - Madelung's disease • Liposarcoma - rare malignant tumour of adipose tissue

What are the signs and symptoms of lipoma?
A
- Most are ASYMPTOMATIC
- Compression of nerves can cause pain
- Soft or firm nodule
- Smooth normal surface
- Skin coloured
- Most are < 5 cm in diameter
- Mobile
- Soft/doughy feel

What investigations are carried out for lipoma?
A
usually a clinical diagnosis
imaging if there’s doubt
