Lipids 1 - Triglycerides Flashcards

1
Q

Lipids

A
  • Contain large amounts of carbon and hydrogen.
  • Contain smaller amounts of O2
  • Insoluble in H2O because they are not polar

Q

Fatty acids

A
  • have a carboxyl group (COOH) on one end attached to a hydrocarbon tail (only carbon + hydrogen atoms)
  • may be anything from 2-20 carbons long.

Q

Unsaturated

A

C=C present meaning fewer H - bonds can be bonded to the molecules.

Having more than one C=C bonds changes the shape of the hydrocarbon chain giving it a kink where the double bond is.
