Eukaryotic Plant Cells Flashcards
1
Q
Cellulose cell wall
A
- freely permeable
- contents of the cell press against the cell wall making it rigid
- also acts as defence mechanism, protecting the contents of the cell against pathogens
2
Q
Vacuole
A
- membrane lined sacs containing cell sap
- maintenance of turgidity
- membrane of vacuole is called tonoplast ( selectively permeable so small molecules can pass through but other can’t)
3
Q
Chloroplasts
A
- photosynthesis
- double membrane
- stroma -> fluid inside
- thylakoids present
- granum present
- starch is present as starch grains
- also contains DNA + ribosomes
4
Q
Define “thylakoids”
A
Flattened sacs formed from an internal network of membranes in chloroplasts.
5
Q
Granum ( grana)
A
Several thylakoids stacked together
Found in chloroplasts
Joined by membranes called “lamellae”
Contains chlorophyll pigments
