Lipid digestion Flashcards

1
Q

presence of lipid in acid chyme (small intestine) results in what

A

release of CCK and GIP (cholecystekitin and gastric inhibitory peptide); release of bile salts and gastric juice. CCK causes the realease of bile.

Q

how do bile salts effect lipids?

A

Bile salts are amphipathic, causing emulsification of lipids, increasing their surface area. lipid droplets become emulsion droplets

Q

Luminal digestion of lipids

A

lipilytic enzymes in pancreatic juice, Lipase and coenzyme colipase.phospholipase turns phospholipids into lysophospholipids + fatty acid. cholesterol esterase, cholesterol ester -> cholesterol + FA

Q

Lipid absorption

A

lipolytic products combine with bile salts and phopspholipids. this becomes a water soluble micelle, which diffuse into the glycocalyx. Lipolytic products diffise.

Q

fate of bile salts collected in the glycocalyx

A

released back into thelumen ,. via the ileum; recycled back to the liver. enterohepatic cycle

Q

what happens to the lipolytic products after absorption

A

resynthesised to triglycerides, phospholipids and cholesterol esters in the endoplasdmic reticululum

Q

what is a chylomicron?

A

apolipoprotein added to a lipid vesicle creates a chylomicron. apolipoproteins can stabilise the surface of the vesicle and direct its metabolism.

Q

after chylomicron is created..

A

released by exocytosis; they diffuse into viluss lacteal -> thoracic duct-> into blood circulation.
